A common species in scandinavian Picea forests. It is easily recognized by the distinct brown veil girdles on the stem.

It might resemble C. triumphans which has more yellowish brown veil girdles, a yellow base reaction in the flesh, and is associated with birch.

These specimens were collected in dry weather.
