This pale species, belonging to section Callochroi has a very destinct smell reminding of flowers of Prunus padus or Hebeloma saccariolens - only stronger. In the field the presence of the species is sometimes detected because of the smell.

It may resemple species near C. calochrous, but the smell is unique.

It is a habitant of beech woods on calcareous soils.
