This beautiful yellow species is separated from all other yellow species by the (initially!) brown gills. As well as the gills the context of the stipe is brownish as well.

Apart from this, it may resemble the yellow and greenish yellow species: C. splendens, C. odoratus, C. citrinus.

It grows in broadleaved forests on calcareous soils.
