This majestic fungus is characterized by its warm orange-yellow colours and very large spores. C. cedretorum is very similar, but has smaller spores.

It might remind of C. elegantior, which however lacks the warm orange colours and is mainly associated with conifers.

The very rare C. claroflavus reacts red with bases in the flesh and has smaller spores
