Normally this species is placed in its own genus - Leucocortinarius - due to the white spore deposit. But in all other respects it looks like a cortinarius. Molecular investigations will show wheter this specis should be treated as a true Cortinarius.

The species grows with conifers, and is caracterized by the consistendly white gills.
