This beautiful mushroom is unmistakeable with its blackish green
cap and yellow stipe ang gills. Furthermore it is often very slimy,
and has a sometimes a strong peppery smell.
It grows maily with Abies in middle and southern Europe, but is
also found with Pinus on Gotland in Sweden.
Closely related are C. ionochlorus,
which however has greyish/violaceous gills, and grows with Quercus
species, and C. odoratus, which has
a strong pleasant smell.
