A pale fungus with a silvery or frost-like cap surface, wich is nearly dry. It often has a broad, low umbo. The gills are +/- violaceus.

With its well-developed hypoderm, and lack of alcaline reactions, it seems to belong to section Glaucopodes rather than section Phlegmacioides (=Variecolores).
